Over the hot summer, on a location high above Ebbesborne Wake, a group started to re-profile and old Dew Pond.

Volunteers pounding chalk in the dew pondWork carried out by a local contractor and 30 young people, with organisation Seeds for Success, was sponsored by Cranborne Chase Landscape Trust.

They all worked during a hot week, pummelling and beating chalk into dust to seal the base of the pond. Dew ponds are usually shallow, saucer shaped and lined with chalk to collect rainwater. These artificial ponds were traditionally sited on hilltops to provide water for farm animals.View of dew pond and landscape beyond

The location of the newly refurbished pond is up high, on a very attractive iconic spot in the AONB and overlooks the valley, with Winklebury Camp in the background. Cranborne Chase Landscape Trust look forward to seeing the pond filling over the winter - so more pictures to follow as the project
